Theta
Ohio State University
won Greek Week and received a $500 prize. The chapter also completed its first annual “Big Man on Campus” philanthropy. The event raised nearly $1,000 in the first year for the Columbus Speech and Hearing Center.

Iota
University of Iowa

The chapter, with Sigma Phi Epsilon, won the Cardinal Division indoor soccer tournament, the first of six tournaments that took place during the Homecoming festivities.

Kappa
University of Washington

won Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s philanthropy event, “Feed the Lions,” for the second consecutive year at Greek Week events. The event raised money for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Program.

Rho
University of Denver

participated in a university-wide program to make lunches to feed day laborers in the Denver area. Chapter members joined other student volunteers for the PB&J Night, making 77 lunches which fed all the workers at El Centro Humanitario day-labor center for the day.

Sigma
Louisiana State University
hosted the tenth Miss LSU-USA pageant, raising $40,000 to support the Baton Rouge Speech & Hearing Foundation, Capital Area Alzheimer’s Association, Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge and the Delta Zeta Foundation. Five chapter members competed in the pageant. The chapter also competed in Songfest along with Phi Delta Theta and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternities, where they won first place out of
10 groups. Sigma was named Outstanding Chapter at the Order of Omega Greek Awards banquet, in addition to winning several other awards.

Alpha Gamma
University of Alabama

placed third in the large division for the annual Homecoming parade competition. The chapter also volunteered at the 26th annual 5K Shamrock Run for RISE, in which 350 people participated to benefit the RISE School for Children with disabilities and Crossing Points program where post-high school students learn basic life skills.

Alpha Theta
University of Kentucky

co-hosted, with Lambda Chi Alpha, the annual “Watermelon Bust.” The philanthropic event benefits The North American Food Drive and The Painted Turtle camp. The event includes a tug-o-war, a watermelon toss and a relay race.

Alpha Sigma
Florida State University

presented a $25,000 endowment fund to FSU’s Speech and Hearing Clinic. The endowment will go toward research and programs for local residents with hearing and speech impairments. “Without their support we wouldn’t be able to continue at the capacity we are at currently,” says Selena Snowden with FSU’s Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Beta Gamma
University of Louisville
won the Homecoming Spirit Award and the Phi Kappa Tau Step show, which raised funds for Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity’s national philanthropy, the Hole in
the Wall Camps. Beta Gamma, teamed with
Phi Kappa Tau and Tau Kappa Epsilon, received the Greek Homecoming Spirit Award. Senior Karen Clough, Panhellenic Delegate, was named to the Homecoming Court. The chapter participated in service events including the Heuser Hearing Institute Golf Scramble, Adopt-a-Highway and the Diabetes Walk, and hosted its 12th Annual DZ Auction, raising a record $21,800 for national philanthropy projects.

Beta Delta
University of South Carolina

created their nautical-themed Homecoming float of over 500 cans of canned foods. All of the cans were donated to the Harvest Hope Foundation after the competition.

Beta Lambda
University of Tennessee/Knoxville

made a donation to the Kentucky Academy in Ghana, a kindergarten school started by University of Kentucky faculty. The academy was in desperate need of renovations and school supplies, which the chapter’s donations, in part, were able to supply. Beta Lambda also participated in the all-campus community service event with the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Gamma Kappa
Kent State University

hosted an alumnae brunch and tours of the chapter house during Homecoming. The chapter also hosted its annual Lip Sync event and surpassed its fundraising goal by more than $2,000. The chapter raised $7,450 in donations for Gallaudet University, the Sound Beginnings Program, House Ear Institute, The Starkey Hearing Foundation and The Painted Turtle camp.

Gamma Lambda
San Jose State University

joined Greek students for the “Out of the Darkness” walk to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to raise awareness for suicide prevention and bring depression and the stigma of mental illness out of the darkness. The chapter also participated in the 12th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, donating $1,735 in addition to members’ donations through online registration.
